About Rugged Hands Outreach
History
Rugged Hands Outreach began its mission in 2008, when our founder and president Roy Reed, a remodeling and construction contractor, partnered with Bill Penny to see how they could help struggling families with home repairs. They both had children in the same youth group at the church they attended and wanted to show them how to serve others, as Jesus taught us. So, they began gathering materials and resources to complete needed repairs, and with their children, went to work helping as many low-income families as possible.
At first, Roy and Bill funded the repairs themselves with the help of building material suppliers and several local churches. Soon, word spread about their work and more families found themselves in need of help. A few years down the road, Bridge Christian Church, where Roy and his wife Lisa now attend, was looking to increase their outreach presence in the community. The church leadership approached Roy and Lisa about Rugged Hands Outreach becoming a Mission Point of Bridge Christian Church. In addition to financial support, they also donated a trailer and a number of tools.
With this added support, Rugged Hands Outreach continued serving the community with a handful of volunteers. The group would get together one Saturday a month to help a family in need with yard work, demolition, or any other repairs necessary. As requests for assistance increased, the group started meeting more frequently. In 2020, Rugged Hands Outreach applied for and received 501(c)(3) status from the IRS as a public charity.
Today, Rugged Hands Outreach strives to continue serving those in need in Staunton, Waynesboro and Augusta County. With the support of Bridge Christian Church, as well as the help of dedicated volunteers, we pray God continues to bless us and increase our reach so that we may show His love and hope through His son, Jesus Christ.

Financial Accountability
We believe that financial responsibility is a biblical principle that is based on the following:
God is the ultimate owner of all things. We are simply stewards of the resources that God has entrusted to us. Psalm 24:1: The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.
We are called to be good stewards of our finances. This means managing our money wisely and using it for God's purposes. 1 Corinthians 4:2: Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.
We are called to serve others. Acts 20:35: In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.
We honor Jesus by serving others. Colossians 3:23-24: Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
We believe that these biblical principles help us to live a life that honors our Creator. When we follow these principles, we are not only honoring God, but we are able to show the love of His Son, Jesus Christ, to the world.
